Donald Kipkorir explains why he stood by Raila Odinga

Image
on his Facebook wall he wrote : "IN 2005, before the first Constitutional Referendum, I met Raila Odinga. I listened to him & was converted to his moral viewpoint & political philosophy. I haven’t wavered since then. I truly believe he is the one to lead Kenya to Canaan. His victory will truly break the last ceiling that is holding Kenya back. His ascendency to Presidency will be transcendental and transformative. I met William Ruto in 1992 and we have been friends since then. And we have been BFFs. I also personally know Kalonzo Musyoka, Najib Balala, Musalia Mudavadi and Late Joseph Nyaga. Between 2005 to 2009, Messrs Raila, Ruto, Kalonzo, Balala, Mudavadi and Nyaga were in the political dalliance of one form or another. In 2006, Kalonzo made me his Head of Strategy. I began working on a political agreement where the six were to rise to the Offices of President and Prime Minister in a sequential order of seniority, the Presidency being the top office. Each was to be Pres

The reason why you should never go into competition with a drunkard in a club

Image
It is 6 PM, today. I walk into a club in Thika to grab one and two beers before MKU students turn it into an unruly place. Almost immediately, a man in his 40s or 50s or thereabouts walks in after me. He takes the next table. The music is low and slow. A few people around, mainly, the people of his age. The one whose eardrums can't withstand the rumbles of Amapiano and Afrobeats. The DJ is playing Rhumba. I order two beers, Tusker, the man orders 2 beers, Guinness. And soon, we embark on an unprovoked and silent competition to see who finishes his beer ahead of the other. Occasionally, we take breaks to talk about politics, about football and we even discuss the size of the waitresses' bums, and their cleavages. We finish our two beers almost at the same time, and orders two more, each with our favorite brand. There is no one as loyal as a beer lover to the brand of the beer that they love. We have 3 rounds, and at that time, around 7:45, two sassy, skimpily dressed minji mi

The rest is history,” Ruto concluded. Rachel and Ruto got married in 1991 and currently have 7 children. In 2016, Ruto was touched by the case of a girl named Nadia who was abandoned as

‘Your Jobs Are Safe, But Do Not Take Political Sides Anymore’, Ruto Tells Public Servants

Image
Kenya’s president-elect William Ruto has told public servants to keep off politics and carry out their roles as stipulated by the law.  Speaking Wednesday during his first meeting with the Kenya Kwanza Alliance elected leaders at his Karen residence in Nairobi, Dr. Ruto termed public servants’ involvement in politics as unprofessional and an abuse of office. “I am asking all public servants who have been forced to take public positions in the just-concluded General Elections to step back and be professional public servants and serve all Kenyans equally,” said Ruto. The president-elect said that under his administration, public servants will be expected to focus on their offices and leave politics to political players. “Public servants from the top town to the chiefs and their assistants; we will be expecting them to serve people equally without favouring people on the basis of their political affiliations,” he noted. “Political business will be carried out by political actors. WHAT NEXT FOR RAILA ODINGA?

Image
Raila Amolo Odinga has spent most of his adult life in politics, including eight years in prison as a pro-democracy campaigner, but despite five attempts, has never achieved his presidential ambitions. The 77-year-old, who lost his fifth bid for the presidency to Deputy President William Ruto, has long cast himself as an anti-establishment firebrand, despite belonging to one of Kenya’s top political dynasties. But his decision to strike an alliance with his arch-rival, President Uhuru Kenyatta, took the shine off his brand. The Kenyatta and Odinga families have dominated Kenyan politics since the country won independence from The British colonial in 1963. Uhuru Kenyatta’s father Jomo was Kenya's first president, while his rival Jaramogi Oginga Odinga — Raila’s father — served as vice president. Born on January 7, 1945, Odinga spent his early years in politics either in jail or in exile, fighting for democracy during the autocratic rule of president Daniel arap Moi. A member of
