Ruto Receives Intelligence Reports Against Kindiki, Person He'll Now Pick Revealed

It has emerged that Deputy President William Ruto wanted to name Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki his running mate for the August election.
But he is reported to have been forced to change his decision at the last minute, after detecting that such would have made things hard for him in Mt Kenya.

As a result, The Standard has established, he will now name Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, a decision set to be made this day, 2 days to the IEBC deadline.

Sources told the paper that the Mt Kenya region was going to retaliate against Ruto for picking a person from a less populated area, therefore denying him the Kikuyu vote which he badly needs.
It is for this reason that he has been forced to choose Gachagua, whose region is bigger numerically, and who comes from the Kikuyu community, which dominates the Mt Kenya voting bloc.
Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata admitted that the race was between the two, adding that as UDA members they were involved in making the decision.

"We met yesterday (Thursday) in Karen and agreed to unveil the running mate from this region and we zeroed in on either Rigathi or Kindiki. Let’s hold our horses today,” the leader told the paper.

Some of Kindiki's strengths that were being considered include his loyalty and the fact that he hails from the Mt Kenya East region.

Gachagua, on the other hand, is considered for his governance experience, having been an administrator before and his ability to mobilise voters.

Sources told the paper that Ruto received intelligence reports that choosing Kindiki would result in Mt Kenya voters voting for the rival candidate; ODM leader Raila Odinga of the Azimio La Umoja side.
