William Kabogo Spells Doom for Ruto's Presideny

Kabogo said the August polls will more likely go into a re-run between Ruto and Raila

Days after threatening to ditch Deputy President William Ruto' led Kenya Kwanza Alliance, former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has poured more cold water on Ruto's presidential bid.

In a suggestive Twitter post on Friday night, Kabogo, who had earlier pledged full support for Ruto's presidential bid, made a U-Turn and claimed he is not seeing one round win for Ruto on the ballot in August.

According to the Tujibebe Party Leader, August polls will more likely go into a re-run between Ruto and Raila. He reiterated his earlier remarks, saying the choice of a running mate will determine the person who will carry the day in August.

Despite not revealing the kind of a running mate who could win either Ruto or Raila the presidency, Kabogo's tweet was a clear hint that whoever will pick the most influential candidate from the Mt Kenya region, will be the president after the August polls.

"I smell a rerun, it’s imminent. Like I said before the choice of a running mate will decide the 5th. Am not a witch neither am I a prophet but I see," read Kabogo's tweet

Kabogo's good relationship with DP Ruto seems to have gone south a few days after the Kenya Kwanza Alliance Agreement leaked. The former governor accused the DP of allegedly shortchanging the people of Mt Kenya region in his power-sharing deal.

He threatened to ditch the alliance, claiming Ruto appears to be favouring ANC boss Musalia Mudavadi and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula of Ford-Kenya. This was after the leaked deal claimed that the two had been allocated 30% of Ruto's government should the DP win elections.

Kabogo said if Ruto's power structure is not revised to include the people of the Mt. Kenya region, he will leave the Alliance.

“I want to send out a message. I have seen the coalition agreement that UDA, ANC and Ford-Kenya have deposited with the political parties’ registrar. I did not join hands with William Ruto to get an appointive position. What I asked him is to ensure the interest of the Mt Kenya region is well captured in his government,” stated Kabogo during a rally at Makongeni in Thika on Thursday, May 12, 2022.
